Hey Tara
No need to apologise for being down – Diablo has had a rough time & this is such a horrible thing to watch. It’s not fair that he has had this on top of the IMHA. He really sounds like he’s getting better to me & your vet must have seen this may times – they would say if they were worried, I’m sure. When his eyes stop moving he will feel better & his balance will become more normal. I think I said in an earlier post that Sprockett only improved when his eyes settled down completely. I know it’s hard to be patient, but time is the healer with this syndrome. He also lost weight because he wasn’t eating properly, but he soon put it back on again, I promise. Remember that it’s just like us being really dizzy & you wouldn’t be that hungry or able to contend with complicated things like stairs if you felt like that. We lived in a 3 storey building when this happened, so it was a nightmare carrying Sprockett (30kgs) up & down the stairs in a sling towel. Even when his eyes became “normal”, he was still a bit wobbly & we kept a close eye & helped him if he tripped or stumbled. Obviously, I can’t promise that Diablo will be 100% back to normal like my dog was, but he stands a great chance. The 2 people I know with dogs with head tilt (a border collie called Sophie of 13 yrs & a Jack Russell called Jasper of 18 yrs) have assured me that it does NOT disable their dogs in any way – they still run around & enjoy life. It’s still early days – as Vally said, they can take up to a month to show any improvement at all, so he is doing fine so far. Hoping all will be well with the CBC & I think you are very wise to leave the medications at their present levels. I would personally leave them like that until he has recovered for a good month, but that is my personal opinion being a cautious, crazy, paranoid Worzel Mum! I think of you & Diablo throughout each day, Tara, as I know exactly how awful this CVD is for our much loved pets & how stressful it is for us to see them going through this. Patience is a virtue (not that I have any at all!) & Diablo is a real fighter. Let us know how he is when you get a minute.

Don’t apologise for being down. We all totally understand that. I agree, if your vet thinks things look a little better, that’s good. You’re seeing him day in day out and looking and looking for signs of problems. Your vet hasn’t seen him for however long, differences are more noticeable – if he thinks the eye movement is a little better, I’m sure he’s right. And as Sheena said, the weight will go back on when Diablo starts to feel hungry again.
As someone who suffers from car sickness, bus sickness, air sickness, train sickness, boat sickness (have I left any out?) – I soooo get that.
Lots of love, Vally & Bingo.
Hi Tara
Sorry to hear you are feeling down, but it does sound as though Diablo is slowly on the mend and it is excellent to hear that he has his appetite back.
Mable and I just want to send our best wishes that he carries on making progress and is soon back to normal

Received the CBC results….last month Diablo’s PCV was 46 and RBC 6.4 and this month PCV 44 and RBC 6.0. I know these are good but worry with any drop. At least this bout with Vestibular Disease has not hurt him too much. Unfortunately, his WBC were slightly raised – neutrophils. It was normal the last few times and this is concerning because he just came off antibiotic so not an infection. The vet was not overly concerned because he is still on pred so says this can happen but bothers me because of being normal the last few times :( Feeling discouraged still….his head tilt is so severe…almost tilted right over!!!!! He is more stable on his feet but the head tilt causes him lots of problems :( He is eating and drinking on his own and has energy so that makes me happy :) Linda I just saw your post…..sounds similar with the WBC…I am thinking of you and Sadie.
Tara, yes I think if is eating and drinking on his own and has energy that’s a definite plus.
A drop of 2 in the PCV is really really not something to worry about. Bingo never comes back with the same result twice in a row.

Hi Tara. Thanks about Sadie, but she’s okay. How are you and Diablo today? I feel so badly for you both.
I know how you feel about the blood work. Heck, we all do. We become so paranoid – although we all know, it can go up and down a bit and the culprit is not usually anything but too little water, too much water – nothing much to worry about. But, yep – worry we do. We have to. This stupid AIHA/IMHA programs us!!!
To read that Claire, Sheena and Patrice and all the others that have been where you are right now, and are telling you – Diablo WILL recover – is incredibly encouraging. :)
Hang in there through all this – you’re such a wonderful, loving fur mom. And smiling as I read about Diablo following you everywhere. Such a precious pup.
Thinking of you with much love.
xoxoxo Linda & Sadie
Sheena and Patrice I need your advice…this week Diablo has been on the mend and I have been feeling hopeful…..pretty severe head tilt but not wobbly and acting normal in all other ways. Today woke up to him moving his head side to side a bit and than saw his eyes………TERRIBLE nystgmus is back and seems worse than before….still side to side and more towards the right the way his head tilts. I fear this is the end for him….he is having trouble walking again.
