Hi Marla
So LOVELY to hear from you & glad all is well – I bet Dewey enjoyed his birthday treats!
Are you changing from cyclosporine for cost reasons? I can completely understand that, but prefer you continue with the cyclosporine if you possibly can as he is responding so well to it without problems. Imuran (azathioprine) has more side effects & smaller dogs don’t always tolerate it very well – it can also increase the risk of pancreatitis, so you need to be vigilant for diarrhoea/vomiting. If this happens, stop it immediately & go to the vets. So all I’m saying is that if it were me, I would continue with the cyclosporine at the “normal” dose (not the high dose he was on).
Worzel responded very well, without problems, to imuran but he’s a bigger chap, so it’s not that I don’t think it will work. It’s just not the number one choice.
Speak soon & take good care of yourself & sweet Dewey
Loads of love

Marla, yes, Sheena is right. Cyclosporine is usually the last drug to be dropped. Normally the prednisone is reduced first. Can you remind us where Dewey is up to with his drugs?

Hi Marla and handsome Mr. Dewey! Marla, I sent you an e-mail several days ago. Look at your e-mails and let me know if you didn’t get one from me, okay?!?
I know you’re busy, but please keep us posted as to how Dewey is doing. Try to keep him on the cyclo, if possible. As Sherna and Vally say. I know it’s expensive, but you should be able to drop to the 10mg soon and the lower the dose, the less it costs. Will your vet write a script to by from one of the pet prescription web sites? I can send you a few suggestions that are good. Many times, it’s much less expensive.
Okay – write us and definitely write me! Ha. Love ya kiddo!!! 😘

Hi
Dewey is still holding at 35. He has now been without cyclo for 5 days and seems to be doing good. The cyclo WAS not dropped because of cost reasons! Next appointment is on Friday with a full blood panel and ultrasound to make sure everything is functioning normal. If he is still holding at 35, imuran will be the next drug to be tapered. Thanks and take care!
Hello Marla!!!! So good to see this! Dewey is doing great – you’re doing an awesome job with him!
Did you get my e-mail. I still have not gone by Verizon to find out why I’m being charged for texting to Canada because I’m still not leaving Sadie for more than an hour and Verizon takes their sweet time on customer service, but will hopefully this week. Please, please though, e-mail me AND post Dewey’s continued progress here on the forum.
Love you lady! Linda and Sadie (still hanging in!)
