- Information on Cyclosporine – to freeze or not to freeze?
Hi Jeremy,
Thank you for sharing your info but my concern, like Dorothy’s, is about the Atopica LIQUID freezing not the capsules. I will call both Elanco, the manufacturer and the vendor I bought the medication from but I am not sure I will receive a straight answer so I looking online.
Freezing has no effect on pharmacokinetics absorption

Admin note:
“ATOPICA should be stored and dispensed in the original unit-dose container at controlled room temperature between 59 and 77°F (15-25°C).”
See:

I asked Dr. Dodds who advised that I should check with the manufacturer who responded with the same information: stored between 59 and 77°F .
If dosing it is causing diarrhea, vomiting and other stomach upset then it can be given with food for a few days. Most dogs in the study (read the product insert) adjust to it after a short period of time.
I suspect freezing damages the preparation of the “microemulsion in an aqueous environment.” Specifically it is a cyclic polypeptide “metabolite by the fungal species Beauveria nivea” consisting of 11 amino acids.
I left the cyclosporine out over night instead of freezing it or leaving in the frig. will this effect the medication
Hi Frances, we don’t recommend freezing Cyclosporine at all. Does your dog have trouble stomaching it? I know that’s why freezing is suggested. We recommend for intolerance to start with giving it with a small amount of food at t e beginning.
I know freezing has become popular, but Patrice, the site owner has checked with the manufacturers and they also suggest it be kept between 59 and 77°F.
I believe it is because the Company hasn’t tested the efficacy of the drug after freezing, whereas it has been tested at the temperatures they recommend.
I guess if it were me, and this is not a medical recommendation, I would leave that packet out of the freezer now and finish it, and keep future boxes at room temperature.
I hope your doggie is doing well.
Regards, Vally
