- Cassie's Birthday
Cassie is 10 today! She’s been so active since we had her knee surgery, you would not know to look at her that she is that old. Today she and Willie were playing in the snow, pretty rough. Willie does take it easy on her, but she is still a tough character.
This is Chance NOT tolerating the annoying puppy. This was a favorite day of mine.
This is Cassie during her second day with us, she had her first marrow bone. How sweet she was.
Last night when I got home I was sitting on the floor in the kitchen petting and talking with them. I checked their gum and tongue color and noticed it was pale pink. It reminded me that they had been asleep for at least 4 hours since Mark went to bed and that dogs’ spleens tend to hoard a lot of blood in storage when they sleep.
Of course I worry about Cassie not staying healthy. Having her knee fail last fall and going through surgery was as much of a trial for me as it was for her. I worried she would not recover full use of her leg again. But she has and I am glad we spent that much money to make her life better for her.
We can never know what will happen tomorrow, but thanks to Chance I try to make sure that both Cassie and Willie get all the best care that I can give them.
This was taken some time later in her second day with us, both Cassie and Chance were taking a nap under the bench together. Me and Mini Me.

Happy Birthday Cassie!!! I just love that puppy energy. But then there is something special, very beautiful in an older dog as well.
Here is to many more happy and healthy years for you Cassie!

Folks,
I am sorry I have not been around for a while. Cassie injured the knee she had surgery on last fall and we have both been very busy attending to her. The vet examined her carefully, did xrays, and said the surgery itself is fine but that the joint appears very swollen. So it could be a simple strain or the meniscus could be torn.
We are in a wait and see mode for now, treating with doggie NSAID and controlling her walking with a full harness to keep weight off the knee. If there isn’t improvement then it is likely the meniscus is torn and will need to be removed surgically. We just won’t know for a bit.
Our winter has been very tough also. This week we had a blizzard of proportions not seen in decades. I was stuck in a motel room near work. Luckily Mark got home before they closed the roads.
I have many things I want to do for the website and I promise I will get to all of them eventually. I am so glad the forum is up and working properly, that was what we all needed, so any more will just be icing on the cake. I read your posts everyday and I check to make sure the website is running under the hood ok. Our spam control is working fabulously.

Patrice, don’t apologise. Fingers crossed it is a sprain.
As you said the forum is up and running, and running well. That’s the most important, so you don’t need to promise to do anything. As you say, icing on the cake (that is my favourite bit of every cake though).
And here, summer just doesn’t want to move on. Mornings are a little cooler thank goodness, but it heats up during the day and it’s still incredibly humid. Rained for about a week straight a month ago which was welcome as it just hasn’t rained in forever, but the rain seems to have dried up again too. My poor plants – I’m a hopeless gardener. I love bonsai, but have killed a forest worth. I feel sorry for any plant that catches my eye.

Hi Patrice
We are all so grateful for everything you have done already – this is a GREAT site which runs smoothly, thanks to you. Don’t worry about anything on here for now, just concentrate on getting your dear Cassie better. We all know how much she means to you & I am crossing everything for her to make a full recovery.
