- Bingo next phase
Thanks Tara, he gets cooked pumpkin with most of his meals, as well as raw vegetables pulp. But the sweet potato he only gets with fish, maybe once or twice a week. Because sweet potato is so good for them, I may change his pumpkin to pumpkin and sweet potato and add that to all his meals.
I think I’ll do some sweet potato for him today and use that with the pumpkin for the next few days to see how the poos go.
Thanks again.

Hi Vally and Sprightly Skip-a-Day
I can only imagine what an anxious time this is for you Vally. Great to hear that Bingo is more himself today, and it sounds as though the heat was getting him down. I can understand the vet’s point of view about Bingo suffering greater effects with the pred and therefore reducing this first.
Great question Patrice about the prednisolone dose. This would be really useful to know. Presumably it would vary depending on certain factors? I am not sure. I hope Cassie is feeling ok after her rabies shot (and Ollie too, of course). Mable is also subject to random gum checks – quite unreasonable in her case. In fact, today I found myself staring at a passing greyhound, relieved to see that its tongue was pink. Madness.
Wishing Bingo all the very best with his reduction.
With love and best wishes,
Mary & Mable x
Yes question about prednisolone and adrenal glands is a great one. We won’t be going back to the vet hopefully for another 2 months, but I’m going to research that now and I will raise it with him when I go again.
Funny because I always just assumed as soon as you start reducing the glands have to kick in, but that’s just not right I now realise.
Vally & Bingo
I hope Bingo’s okay. Gosh – it’s just not easy, is it?!? Anyone put here have hair as grey as mine?!? Yep – all Sadie’s fault (kidding). ;)
Let us know what you find – very interested. In fact, surprised it has not come up before. I think that some dogs wean easier than others too? And I just assumed too, that as the meds were weaned, the adrenal glands would kick in, which is why we do it SLOW – to keep from ‘surprising’ the system and relapse. Big question mark for me too.
I so hope I’m not doing the wrong thing with the intermittent weaning. We are still doing one med at a time and not long ago (month and a half) started the Atopica. It would do me in to know I’ve hurt Sadie instead of help her. But we just had to lower the Atopica and I was doing the Pred so darn slow. Goodness. Right, wrong – I don’t know.
Sadie, I guess, will end up on a low dose of pred, not Atopica, so I will stop the Atopica first. Need to discuss that with the vet though. This IS the tricky part. She goes in for her PCV in the morning. Wish us luck.
So glad Bingo’s down to a quarter tab! That’s awesome. Is he getting this just in the morning? And how much cyclosporine is he on now?
Also, haven’t gone through all posts, but someone mention SAM-e. I use CellFood SAM-e. It’s what Callie said to get.
Sadie is 38 (robust) pounds and I give her 11 drops over her food, AM and PM. The company, Lumina, is awesome. I have talked with them and they are extremely helpful. They are based in Florida. Great company. I usually can get a good price on Amazon, but it’s not cheap. Worth it though. :)
Love to our Bingo. Huge healthy hugs!
Linda and Ms Robust
PS -Vally – we are a family here. Any concerns at all – that’s what we do – vent, help, hold hands. How could we EVER be sick of you?!, Ever?!?
Bestest buds – all. xo
Oh yeah Vally – sick of you & Bingo? Never, ever. Linda is right – we need each other for all kinds of support. I agree with your vet on the pred, Vally – low as possible is best because it does have ravaging effects. Glad Bingo has perked up – cat pooh searching seems to make him very happy!
Love to all
How is Bingo doing? I’m glad he’s perked up. I hope the weather cools off for him today. And that he’s doing ok on the accident front! Xxxxxx
