- Bingo has hurt his knee
Lynn, thank you for your post. Yes this happened in March this year and he’s much much better. I’m still not letting him go up or down steps, he gets carried to his disgust, and when I put him on the couch, if I have to do something, I’ll put him back down on the floor, so he can’t jump down. He still has a slight limp, but not bad at all, most wouldn’t notice it. Even when he’s just gotten up after sleeping or lying down, the limp isn’t too bad. Still runs on 3 legs. The rubber soled socks have been really good for him.
He hates me carrying him. He’ll always run to the door to go for a walk, I’ll bend down to pick him up so I can carry him down the steps, and he’ll run away from me and this goes on for a bit.
Coming home from a walk I usually walk to the closest gate, the usual front path gate, or there’s also a driveway gate. I’ll open the normal gate, most times as we’re usually coming from that direction, and Bingo, if he’s in the mood to go that way, he’ll go in and race for the steps and I have to drop everything and race to get there first so he doesn’t run up the steps, and at other times, I have the usual gate open for him and he ignores it and walks to the driveway gate and stands there waiting for me to go around and open that one for him. He likes to put me in my place at times by reminding me who serves who. From there, to avoid me grabbing him, he’ll run across the grass and make a run for the other pathway (where we just were) to the steps where I have to “ditto” drop everything run across the grass and grab him. He can run up and down the steps without problems. He’s beaten me to them at times, but I don’t want him to do any more damage if the knee isn’t ready.
I actually rang an animal physio this week that I’ve taken Bingo to before and I’m going to see her next week. I’m still nervous about what he can and can’t do and I’ve done no exercise with the legs at all, so I’d like to strengthen them up a bit if it’s time.
Love Vally & He Who Chooses the Path.
