- Baylee the Standard Schnauzer
I am very interested to see what Dr Dodds has to say also. I am sure it may take her a little extra time to digest everything! I got the lab results back today on the bone marrow core and the results were consistent with the in house cytology. No evidence of cancer, fibrosis or scarring…whew. Planning to have Baylee’s blood re-checked next week.
I told my holistic vet that I had submitted a consultation to Dr Dodds and she said she has worked with her several times in the past on thyroid and food sensitivity issues. She is also interested to hear what she says about this Baylee!
Thanks for the guidance and encouraging words. Will keep everyone posted. Now, I must go feed the “starving” beast!! ;)

Zorro has done bone marrow aspiration and biopsy too and no cancer to be found. It’s really a relief! But we still can’t figure out what the root cause is. Keep us posted! Good luck, Kara!

Thanks Vally (and Bingo)! Bingo is awful cute too! And his story inspires me to think we will get this under control!
That picture was taken just as I was starting to notice some of the first symptoms…not quite as active, not wanting to jump up on things, her back legs “hopping” up stairs. This was in a hotel on our way to Texas and I was surprised to see her on the chair. She has been a very active girl, so I thought we were probably just dealing with some “old age” setting in.
She is my first dog and we have taught each other so much….she has beauty and brains! I wonder how I got so lucky my first time around!! Baylee is an AKC Conformation Champion, has 3 Agility Championships and has other Obedience and Rally titles…also one more leg and she has her Novice Barn Hunt title!
She has had one litter of puppies and so of course it is on my mind if this has a genetic component to it. In general the Std Schnauzer is a very healthy breed and we had a huge breatkthrough about 2 years ago when the Univ of Missouri identified the gene responsible for Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) in the breed. No SS should ever succomb to that horrible disease in the future. I see there are some studies about IMHA/AIHA at some of the University Vet Programs…has anyone here participated in any of those?
Baylee’s in house CBC today looks like things are going in the right direction . Her HCT is now at 29.6% and her WBC count is still high but not way, way off the charts.
She is still feeling good! I received Dr Dodd’s report and she believes that Baylee has gotten excellent care so far and that we are on the right track. She suggested we should add the Thyroxine to help stimulate the marrow. As soon as we get the whole blood chemistry panel back tomorrow, we will see what we may want to change/add. I will also probably be going to the liver cleanse diet for awhile.
Thanks for all the support. I will upload Baylee’s blood test results.
