- Bad case of calcinosis cutis
My golden retriever also has the skin issues due to ling term prednisone and what has worked well is Manuka Honey.
My 8 year old baby was recently misdiagnosed with autoimmune disease and was put on high levels of pred for 2 months and she is now at purdue university in the ICU with shock and calcinosis cutis. Please be careful what vet you choose and what you allow your dog to have. She is a beautiful yellow lab.
Second Chance AIHA Dogs has excellent resources about calcinosis cutis on this page, just click on the pictures to open the pdf documents:

Ellie Mae has Cushing’s . She is a 13year old Cocker Spaniel who we rescued just over a year ago. She came with terrible skin and ear issues. We tried everything to alleviate the scratching. She was diagnosed with Cushing’s. She now has many, many crusty sores which I believe are calinosous cutis. I have spent $8000. on her while the vet KEEPS TRYING TO FIND WHICH BACTERIAL INFECTION SHE HAS. Office visits alone start at $70.00. We simply cannot afford to keep doing this. Any pearls of wisdom would be much appreciated. Sincerely, Louise Lagimodiere
Hi Louise, I’m so sorry to hear about Ellie Mae. You are an angel, not only to adopt a 12 year old dog, but one with issues as well.
Is Ellie Mae on any medication for her skin at all now, or are you waiting for the vet to find the cause before trying anything.
I’m guessing you’ve read through the experiences on this post and I’m also guessing you are trying with medicated shampoos.
Is Ellie Mae on any meds right now? Prednisone?
Also what is her diet and any supplements she takes?
