- Ashki – new thread
Got a new diet from Dr. Dodds for Ashki’s kidneys, very similar to the liver diet — white potatoes only, and white fish, eggs, duck, pork, or sardines in the same ratio, added vegies also.
I thought I saw pus on Ashki’s penile sheath so called the vet and back we went. They checked him and couldn’t find anything (I had rubbed at it and examined it carefully — there it is again the things we do!), but we could do a culture if I’d like. We decided not to right now, as the plan was to do one Thursday or Monday anyway and the cost is $260 (!). I am watching Ash carefully. Ugh, the possibility of having infections with no inflammation! His urinalysis was negative from last week (when they measured the protein/creatinine) but of course I am sooo paranoid.
love and hugs to you all —

Bingo gets this occasionally. Dr Google tells me its smegma. Unless it’s excessive or bloody or Ashki can’t stop licking, probably not a concern. I’ve noticed it on Bingo when I see him starting to really lick his penis. I use a little bit of warm water, wipe it clean. Never been an issue in that it stopped in no time at all. May have noticed it twice in all.

Worzel has had this discharge (as Vally said smegma) occasionally too & I’m sure he had it more often when on the pred – it’s hard not to panic when they are ill as you think it’s something horrible, maybe infection. And you are right to be vigilant – any infection needs to be treated quickly because of the immuno-suppressants.
Hoping the albumin / protein / creatinine levels will be better on the next test ANNNNDDDD an even better PCV too!

Hi Tamara
Brilliant news on the PCV front. You must be delighted about this! I know you are worried about the kidney results but will keep everything crossed that the new diet and medications will sort things out. Thank heavens you have a decent vet who is on top of this.
Very best wishes for good news on Thursday.

Hi all – on my phone so this will be short lol. Took Ash in today because he seemed to be having trouble peeing last night though normal later but then he seemed less energetic so of course I started freakin out. Called them and they said bring him in. Did the PCV today and 26!!!!! They’re also doing urine culture/analysis and repeat bloodwork, I’ll let y’all know when I know. Yay 26 !!!

(who was very perky at the vet and made a liar out of me, but I’m happy to be made a liar that way)
