- Ashki – new thread
Hi Tamara
I am so happy for you! What lovely news – I bet that’s cheered you up immensely. Things are going in the right direction & Ashki is a superhero.
Hope the hops work for you & the Tick Tock Tea – sleep deprivation is our cross to bear with this disease & anything that helps is good.

Oh Tamara. Wonderful news! I am so glad he’s going back up again and feeling a bit better. Well done Ashki!
Interesting to hear about the generic cyclo. Since being on this forum I am careful with where Mable’s food and treats come from, and I’ve noticed a lot of the European ones come from the Czech Republic (which I am happy to buy). I’m sure that managing to save some money on Ashki’s meds will be very welcome!
So glad you’ve had some sleep too. Give Ashki a big well done cuddle from us.

Hi all —
We are doing better, I am sleeping better and Ashki is feeling better!
I am a little worried because his poop has been softer; could be due to a new vegie mix I made, some new treats, or the new cyclo. I’m going to discontinue the treats and make some more vegies and sub them in and see if that takes care of it. If it doesn’t I may ask Dr. Burtch to call in a script of atopica and transition Ashki to the generic more slowly rather than all at once and see if that clears it up. I’ll let you know how it all goes.
much love,
tamara and ashki xoxox
Hello you!
Well, I’m so pleased to hear you’re sleeping more soundly – you can put an ear plug in that 3rd ear we seem to acquire with this disease! I would love to hear what you’ve been doing on the diet front & what makes a difference for the soft pooh.
Do you know if there is any difference in the “fillers” with the generic atopica? Sometimes, they are just a little different & you are doing the right thing taking it slowly. I noticed Worzel had a few (minor) periods of slight arrythmia/tachycardia whilst on a generic pimobendan for his heart murmur (due to MVP), so we went back to the original one & he was instantly much better in my opinion. Very interesting indeed. I act like a human ECG (do you say EKG there?) because he is usually lying so close to me that I feel his heartbeat/breathing continuously. I always know when it’s not quite right because he always has to be in close contact – funny, sweet boy. Stupid Mum!
Hope you get the pooh sorted out – these things are so important.
Sending all our love & the biggest hugs & doggy kisses to you both

Hi Tamara,
I have always followed your posts but not posted because I did not really have anything to contribute. But now I have some ideas that I want to pass along, especially since they have to do with Ashki’s digestion. Of course the gut health of these dogs is completely messed up because of all the medications. I learned that dogs don’t have a lot, in some cases even no amilase, an important digestive enzyme to digest carbohydrates and sugar. There is a lot of that in pumpkin so make sure you don’t give too much of that. Instead of cooking veggies and adding them to the protein I feed I now make fermented vegetables. It is sort of like sauerkraut or kimchi. This really seems to help the digestion. Dr Becker explains:

I made it for the first time and it is very easy. I used to buy it but it was quite expensive. I chopp it much finer than in Dr. Becker’s pictures. My Enzo was very bad with gas, not stinky at all just farting along happily. This seems to help.
I have also added digestive enzymes, the brand I am using is Aurion Digest-7. There are many other brands out there.
I am so happy Ashki is happy and you get some sleep!
Best wishes,
Brigitte and the (not at all stinky) poodle boys
