- Ashki – new thread
Hi Tamara
I know poor Ashki’s face may be different at the moment – try not to get too down about this. The sister of my friend that burst into tears when he saw Worzel when he was very ill (the “are we doing the right thing putting him through this terrible treatment” time) came to see us today – she was totally amazed that Worzel looked so good! I haven’t seen her for 2 years & she assured me that Worzel looked exactly the same as the last time she saw him, despite her brother warning her that he had been seriously ill, so please take heart that they do recover their musculature body shape when they are weaned off the drugs. Not forgetting Worzel is getting to be an old boy & Ashki has youth on his side. Good luck tomorrow – thinking of you & crossing fingers & paws!
Love Sheena, Worzel & Ollie xxxx
I’m so totally with the others. One of my nephew who is a totally happy soul was so upset when he saw how bad Bingo was at the worst of it. They all knew Bingo wasn’t good but they think I’m paranoid (me – paranoid????????). Totally skeletal with a swollen belly. The skull, exactly as you describe. No roundness to the head at all. My nephew still goes on now about how great Bingo looks and says to me “remember how bad he looked?” Duh, yeah!!!
Linda, I’m with you, Sheena and Taramara are talking another language at times. I just nod knowledgeably and look smart. Bingo falls for it. He thinks I’m pretty clever – I knew where all the food and treats are – then again so does he – he just can’t reach :)
Love Vally & shorty.
Hi Tamara
I’m sorry I’ve been absent for a few days but I am so glad to hear that Ashki is hanging in there and going to the beach. I totally understand you not wanting him to move about and this can be really difficult but it sounds as though you have things sorted!
All best wishes for tomorrow. Fingers and whiskers crossed over the pond from us for good results

First the good news: PCV 24 today! I am so happy. I’m also seeing less bili in the poo!
The not so good news: Ashki’s kidneys are being compromised. His urinary protein/creatinine ratio was 20 – way way way high. Patrice, you called it. Dr. Fradkin was concerned because his serum protein has been sinking.
We’re adding both plavix and enalapril, as this can increase risk of clotting, and sent out chemistry today (in addition to CBC and retic count). We’re going to do another chem Thurs to monitor closely.
Ash has also lost another 2 pounds – he is down to 57 pounds.
I am working at taking your advice, and taking more time for myself, eating well, etc. I slept quite well last night, which was wonderful.
Now we’re off to pick up the new meds and get some supplies from the market.
love and hugs to you all — and with much gratitude.

Congratulations on the PCV of 24 – that’s great news & less bilirubin is wonderful too! But there’s always something to upset the apple cart, isn’t there? I’m sorry to hear about his poor kidneys – these drugs are very harsh in so many ways – your vet is obviously on top of this though & I hope the results will be better on Thursday. The waiting until the next tests always seems so long, even though it’s only a few days. It’s hard to think of yourself at times like this, but Linda is right – try to get some rest if you can so you are not completely shattered. Lots of love & hugs (leaning or not!) from us all,
