- Ashki – new thread
Hi Tamara,
I’ve been away too long, so I neeeded to do a few updates, but I’m so happy to hear this! Hope all is still well – retics count up is terrific!!
Anne
Hi Tamara, this is so wonderful to read about Ashki!!! I know you are taking a deep, well needed breath. It’s all so grueling.
At onset, they are so sick, PCV’s low, dealing with what meds will work, what supplements to counter the bad/good meds – and you get it (finally) and they turn the corner – you’re thrilled. THEN you start the weaning – yikes. It’s almost like you’re afraid to have good thoughts, that it might jinx the good happening. But it’s okay – he’s doing great, consistent. I really think that’s key.
I am learning with Sadie that stress plays a huge factor (our life is consistently nuts and she rides right along with me on all). So, I guess I should stop yelling at my husband so much? Shucks. Just kidding. But after this last relapse and NOT knowing what the heck caused it – I’m just enjoying the good days. My hope here, is that you can too.
Sending our love and atta boy and girl!!! xoxoxo Linda and hanging in too, Sadie
Thank you all so much. I took Ashki in yesterday and his PCV was 32, the nurse said he is happy in the low 30s lol. I am okay with it, I would rather have a very slow and stable recovery than a roller coaster, I had enough of that to last a lifetime. We did a CBC, chemistry, and urinalysis, I should have results back today or tomorrow, I’ll let you know what I hear.
Ashki is doing well, good energy, good spirits. He rolled in the most awful poo the other day, I was so mad but he had a wonderful time. I think he thought the bath was worth it.
much love and many hugs,
tamara and ashki xoxox
Hi Tamara & dear smelly Ashki
I know you would have liked a higher PCV, but 32 is really fine. Slowly does it & stable is wonderful. How are the retics? Ashki sounds like he doesn’t give a hoot what his PCV is – he’s feeling good & that’s all he’s bothered about!
Oh I can sympathise with the poo – Ollie (not Worzel) rubs his neck in polecat poo whenever he gets a chance & so when you put your hands down to rub him …….. it’s revolting actually & it really stinks. Dirty Dawgs!
Hoping all is well with the rest of the results – sending loads of love & cuddles from me & my smelly pair of cheeky boys to Ashki & yourself,
Sheena, Worzel & Ollie xxxx
Hi Sheena,
I have gotten a bad cold here so a little less on the ball, I’m sorry I didn’t update you!
Ashki’s hematocrit came back stable at 33.6 (34 last time); his retics are lower, 25,000 but that is still higher than they have been. His urinary ph is higher, specific gravity is lower, but they collected there rather than me collecting first thing in the morning. His urinary protein came back 1+ which I think is lower than last time, we’re waiting to hear back on a UPC, I should hear Tuesday.
He continues to do well, active and happy and barking up a storm at the cat that teases him, the doorbells on the TV, etc.
We are going to go ahead and decrease pred by 25% and I am of course keeping a very close watch on him always.
Just got horrible news though, one of my dear friend’s sister’s dog (Roxy, a little shih tzu) was diagnosed with IMHA this week. I’m hoping she will come here for help.
Sending lots of love and hugs, give those boys a wonderful cuddle.

Hey there my dear PSS!!
So wonderful to hear about the amazing Mr. Ash! He’s hanging in there for sure and slow and steady is better than those roller coasters any day! Give the boy some love from crazy aunt Hope and the stinky cousins!
