- Ashki – new thread
Hi Tamara
This is such great news – a really significant reduction in the urinary protein in my opinion. Here’s hoping the thyroid results will be good too, but that’s an easy dose alteration if necessary – nothing compared to what you have dealt with already! You can officially get some good sleep & relax now – you deserve it. I bet someone will be snuggling up beside you, wanting a big cuddle for being the best “shaker” in the business. Who would that be, I wonder?
Love & cuddles from us all,
Sheena, Worzel & Ollie xxxx
Sheena and Anne, thank you! Anne, Ashki loves water and I am sad that since he’s been sick I have had to limit his activity so much and keep him out of water, but I hold that picture as my hope and belief for the future for him. Ashki is quite charming, especially when it comes to food — that prednisone seems to make them voraciously hungry!! He looks at everyone with his big brown eyes and wags his tail and then they all are giving him cookies :) .
Sheena, Ashki has gotten many cuddles and, his favorite, lots and lots of belly rubs! I am so pleased and relieved to see the urinary protein coming down so well.
The results of his thyroid panel came back and he is good at 0.4mg BID! I am a little surprised, I expected that we would need to bump it up again, but I am glad to know.
I am sleeping better, actually waking up and feeling rested, a completely foreign feeling after the last 4+ months.
Forgot to tell you all, last week when I was reading and reading I ran across an article written by a vet called “IMHA – Four Letters You Never Want to Hear.” I thought, now there’s a vet who gets it. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we’re all scarred for life. It’s not all bad, I am so thankful for every day with Mr. Big Brown Eyes, and cherish every moment. But — oh my goodness. I don’t have to tell you all, because you know.
much love and many hugs from here —
tamara and mr. sweetie pie :)
Hi Tamara
Glad to hear all is well with the soloxine dosage too – so everything is settling down nicely and I am really, really happy to hear the news. Looking good.
Goodness, yes – how true – I wish I’d never heard of AIHA either, just like everyone else on here. That sounds like a good article.
I can remember not sleeping properly for so long it seemed like an eternity that I wandered around like a zombie – a whole nights sleep must be a wonderful experience for you! Lovely to sink into that soft mattress & nod off.
When is his next check up, Tamara?
Much love, hugs & scratchy ears to that handsome sweetie pie

Hi Tamara
I am SO pleased that Ashki is doing so well. You have been amazing in researching and getting him the treatment he needs. I’m glad he’s getting belly rubs and continues to charm everyone!
I have bookmarked the article you mentioned and will read it as soon as possible. From the title, I agree with you – someone who “gets it”.
Loads of love,
Mary and Mable x
Linda, Sheena, Mary, and all — thank you so very much, I am so pleased with how well Ashki is doing. Still scared, especially after that last big dip. Yesterday Ashki was less active and his gums seemed paler to me and so of course I was very worried. Then he perked up later and was very playful and active and his gums looked beautiful. Today he has been feeling well enough to keep an eye on the cats out the window and play with several of his toys, and his gums continue to look very good. I found a picture of him from late June with his tongue out and it so pale! Amazing the difference.
I have been fighting fleas here, I don’t know if you remember but Ashki had a reaction to Frontline Plus 30 days before his diagnosis so I don’t want to use that anymore, at least for now and maybe not ever. I have been combing every day, vacuuming more frequently, and carefully using diatomoceaous earth and borax on his beds and in the carpets but it just hasn’t been doing it. All of this I’ve discussed with the holistic vet to make sure it’s safe. I’m also fortunate to have a wonderful holistic/raw pet food store nearby with an incredibly knowledgeable owner and so asked her for help. She suggested a mineral salt/essential oil spray called Pet Cure Plus that I’ve been using and it seems to be helping a great deal, but it still makes me nervous of course.
Mary, you and Sheena will have to let me know what you think of that article, I didn’t read it well, just noted the title and glanced at it but it wasn’t what I was after at the time so moved on.
Sheena, we go tomorrow, I’ll let you know!
Sending scritchies and cuddles to the four-leggeds, hugs and love to you all —

Hi Tamara. It is wonderful to read that Mr. Ashki is doing so well. The greatest news ever!!!!
I just read the article from VetzInsight about the four letters you never want to hear. Very good and got to the point in layman’s terminology. So, yep, I even understood it. Interesting that he too cited Cocker Spaniel’s to be in the top 30% of this horrid disease, which is a documented fact. Still, I have only met one other person that had a Cocker Spaniel with it, Callie, – her Billie (RIP Billie). I hope I never have to meet another.
You know Tamara, Sadie’s gums and tongue would get a little paler when I reduced her meds, the day after for several days. She would even be a bit quieter. But then by the end of the week, she’d be back, pink. Weird. I guess with her, the reduction took her back a bit and thankfully, after a few days, she would recover. She does not do that now that we’re so low on the dosage (3.5mg pred. daily, only).
Here’s to your Ashki! Keep up the good work!!
Love and hugs, Linda and Sadie
