- Ashki – new thread
Hi Sheena, Vally, and Mary, thanks so much; it was definitely a relief even though as you all said, no news is probably good news but we all know how this goes and how we worry. I have been monitoring Ashki’s breath closely — the smell specifically :) — when his UPC was very high – indicating that his kidneys were strugging – it was, um, rather unpleasant. So far, so good, so that is giving me some relief. And he is even more playful and more his sweet self, playing with his toys and seeking those cuddles! We’ll go for PCV Weds or Thurs, I’m calling tomorrow to schedule, I will of course keep you all posted.
love and hugs to you all —

Ashki is maintaining his PCV — 34 today! I’m thrilled and so relieved, you all know how it is, waiting for the other shoe to drop. He is feeling very well, was pulling like freight train last night on our walk and today, and is acting more and more himself.
I am so thankful for you all.
Today has been a hard day, I’ve gotten lots of bad news, some days life is so very difficult and we just feel helpless. A friend’s dog has been diagnosed with colon cancer and is failing rapidly; another friend’s father died very suddenly; and another friend’s father is refusing treatment and has been moved to hospice.
I am so thankful for my sweet Ashki, that he is here, for the joy and love he brings. I am so thankful for your help, without which I don’t think he would be here.
sending you all much love and many hugs —

Hi Tamara,
sometimes it just hits us hard and everything usually happens at once. I am so sorry. I find that times like that really put everything in perspective and we appreciate what we have. Ashki’s PCV of 34 might not be perfect, but it sure is pretty good! The fact that he is feeling better is just wonderful!
Take care and best wishes,
Brigitte
Thank you Vally and Brigitte. Sometimes life is just even more difficult than usual, and i wish I could do more to help — but you know how it is — some things you are just helpless. Where is that damn magic wand anyway??? I’m quite sure my letter to Hogwarts got stolen.
love to you both —

Hey Tamara and Mr. Ash!!
Awesome to hear about the 34%!!! That’s 1% higher technically right?!
You know from my rants that I know how you feel – waiting for the shoe to drop. I’m terribly sorry about all of the other awful things going on around you but at least you have Ash and damn is he lucky to have you!! You’re the best mama he could have! I hope things get better soon for y’all — super wonderful that he’s acting like the good ole flirt he is.
Much love and super super hugs from me and the smelly duo!!
Xoxo hope, super Steve and j bean
Hi Tamara
Great – PCV 34 – I like it! Well done, sweet Ashki. you clever lad (and your Mum is brilliant too).
I am so sorry to hear about all the sad news in your life at the moment. Sometimes it all seems to land on top of us at once – so unfair.
Please take good care – you know we are thinking of you & Ashki & sending big cuddles

Hi all, I’m really upset. I had no idea about the anitibiotic connection to IMHA (or maybe I did at one point but forgot since that wasn’t an issue with Ash) and the last vet gave Ashki cephalexin after his mass removal. When I went to the new vet and told her, she said, “Wow, that was kind of risky,” but there was so much to talk about and think about that I didn’t pursue it and then forgot about it until Hope posted that link. What other drugs do we avoid for our pups? I would think that since Ashki was at a specialty hospital and his internist knew the drugs he was receiving I wouldn’t have to worry and second-guess. I’m just so relieved that Ashki is ok, although I wonder if it had something to do with that 7 point drop in one week — although Ash had been off it for awhile by then. I just don’t know.
