- Ashki – new thread
Ashki continues to feel well and is OVER this activity restriction. He gets his stitches out soon. I’ll upload a cute pic of him this morning, he does not like getting up, wants to stay in bed and have his tummy rubbed, it’s pretty cute.
xoxoxo tamara and ashki
LOL Vally, Ashki and Bingo must be related! They have us wrapped around their little dew claws, that’s for sure.
love, tamara and ashki (more belly rubs!)
It’s been a week of a lot of changes. I had a consult with a different internist and have decided to transfer Ashki’s care to her — I have been very concerned about Ashki’s ongoing drop in retics indicating an insufficient bone marrow response and so is she, which is a big relief to me.
Quite concerning: Ashki’s hematocrit dropped 5 points from 7/16 to 7/22 but he continues to feel quite well, happy, energetic, and playful, so that is very good. She is concerned that the mycophenolate may be suppressing bone marrow so she is reducing that from 250mg BID to 250mg SID.
He was also overmedicated with the enalapril (to address the kidney inflammation), his blood pressure was 88/90/92 in the office and he was clearly uncomfortable while she was doing it (she was touching his paw!!!!), she agreed that it should have been 130ish in the office, so we are reducing that from 15mg BID to 10mg BID. She is increasing the pred back up from 20mg SID to 30mg SID as the last time he had a nice reticulocyte count was at that dose; and we are also increasing his soloxine from .3mg BID to .4mg BID. I’m a little worried about increasing the pred as hyperadrenocorticism is associated with glomerular disease/the inflammation occurring in the kidneys.
We go today to have the stitches out from the mass removal and I’m hoping they’ll do a PCV for me. If they won’t I’ll have to figure something out as the new vet’s main clinic is a 45 minute drive, she is only in my area T-Th. Someone is there Monday, but it’s behavior consults and I’m wondering if they would have someone who could do a PCV for me. Thinking out loud now.
Please keep your paws crossed that we’ll catch whatever problem it is that is causing this drop in PCV. I’m very relieved Ashki is feeling so well, but it’s still worrying.

Hi Tamara
You are just doing the most wonderful job – a real superstar Mum trying to get the best help possible for Ashki & succeeding. I think putting the soloxine back up is a no brainer & hope the pred (always the necessary evil) helps too, even though there are kidney concerns. I’m sure someone could run a quick PCV for you to put your mind at rest. I am so happy to hear Ashki is feeling good – that is the most important thing – he’s a real trooper, the sweet boy.
Loads of love & cuddles from me & the boys xxxx
Hi Sheena, Good news, I got the PCV and it’s 30!!! Hooray!! I’m going to figure out a way to get PCVs done locally so that if I need it I will have the option. Thank you for your kind words. We’re sending love and cuddles back to you and your boys — xoxoxo
