- Ashki – new thread
Ashki is home and ate a good lunch and even wanted to roll in the dirt in the backyard lol — I had to stop him because I don’t want him getting his incision dirty but I’m so happy he’s feeling that good! I’ll upload a pic of him lying next to me as I type.
The silver lining in him staying overnight is I got 7 straight hours of sleep last night — since this has started I have not gotten more than 4 as he needs to go out at least once at night, so that was wonderful.
They added tramadol 75mg TID and cephalexin 750mg TID. I’m keeping an eye on him so he leaves his incision alone, otherwise it’s the cone of shame!
Thank you all so very much — love and hugs from ashki and me
Tamara and Sir Ashki!
So happy to hear the man is home — he looks handsome as ever!! Fingers crossed the pathology comes back good. I’m so glad you got some good rest last night!
Hugs to y’all!

Hi Tamara
Catching up on some sleep must have been heavenly. Oh, what a pretty leg that is – beautiful surgery. Happy to hear he’s eating, bless him, and I bet you’re thrilled to have him back home. Hope he doesn’t need the collar of shame – our old border collie had one after his leg op & he shoved his way through everything in his path, knocking over chairs & battering us on the backs of the legs on a regular basis! I doubt Ashki is such a thug as Sprockett was, but they really hate those things.
As you know, the pred can slow down healing & regrowth of the coat – it takes a bit longer. At least Ashki is on a lower dose now (remind me exactly what dose he’s on now Tamara please). After a long time of Worzel’s leg being cleaned & dressed every day (by yours truly), it started healing beautifully as soon as we reduced the pred & his shaved areas suddenly sprouted new fluffy bits! Funnily enough though, we never had a problem with his bone marrow biopsy wounds – they did heal up pretty well straight away.
Good luck with the results – I know you must be apprehensive about this – we all would be. Please give Ashki a big cuddle & scritchies round those lovely ears from Auntie Sheena.
Love & every best wish as always

Hi Sheena, Hope, and Vally, thanks so much. It was wonderful catching up on some sleep! So far Ashki hasn’t needed the cone of shame though he’s wanting to fuss at his leg a little more. I’ve already sent a pic over to the clinic once because there are some additional bruises that showed up today but they said that was normal. They had to be aggressive about stretching his skin to come together to stitch — though I’m very glad he did not need a graft as those are very painful. His skin will stretch out but it will of course take some time.
I’ll probably take him in tomorrow for a PCV check but really to also have them look at his leg too. Yes, I’m apprehensive but best to have the whole picture and know what’s really going on. Right now I’m telling myself not to worry unless I know I really have something to worry about, and to cherish every moment.
Ashki is down to 20mg pred SID; we had to reduce him quite quickly because of the kidney problems. Monday I’m thinking we’ll do another UPC, I’m anxious to see if there’s improvement there.
Hope you all are well, sending you love and hugs and scritchies from here —
