- Ashki – new thread
Tamara!
All wonderful news! You are so admirable for all of the research and reading that you are doing to help mr Ashkis recovery yourself. I just saw the pic of Ashki with his nurse and he is absolutely gorgeous..And clearly very loved!!
Good luck on all of the tests tomorrow!! Fingers, paws, tails, eyes crossed!
Xoxo hope Steve and stinker
Hi Tamara
Wishing you loads of luck with the further tests – rooting for you & dear Ashki as always. I am so, so pleased the test results so far are pretty good – I see you are really on the ball with the kidney side of things. Something has been going on (maybe even a combination of things) to make him so ill & you will get to the bottom of it somehow! Sucralfate (wonderful stuff for healing & protecting the GI tract) contains aluminium unfortunately, so maybe that’s why they want to stop it. Worzel’s specialist wanted to stop it as soon as practicable – you can always start it again if necessary, but hopefully the famotidine will be enough to keep his stomach protected. Let us know how it’s going as soon as you can – we are crossing everything!
Love & cuddles, Sheena & the boys xxxxx

Thought you might like to read these – although I am a big Cornell fan, these are good too:

Hi Tamara.
I’m so sorry I’m a bit out of the loop at the moment – hope to be fully back in a week or so – but just checking in with Mr Ashki and I am so pleased to read that he is continuing to do well. You are an awesome owner and he is in such good hands with you. And what a handsome boy!
Mable says thank you for all the love you’ve been sending her. It makes us smile every time, and we’re sending ours right back atcha.
Keep up the great work, Tamara and Ashki!
Mary & Mable x
Thank you Sheena. Scary prognoses in these articles, but there are several dogs on the k9kidneys listserv who are doing well with GN and have not developed either kidney disease or kidney failure so that is hopeful.
Something that I have not mentioned because I did not think it worth mentioning is I found a small lump on Ashki’s left stifle about a month ago. Kept meaning to mention it to the internist and forgot until about 10 days or so ago. They pulled a sample and sent it out and the pathologist was unable to rule out an hemangiosarcoma so they are removing the bump with margins tomorrow early afternoon and sending it out to pathology. If it is an hemangio, whether benign or malignant, that could have been driving the IMHA.
Some good news — Ashki’s PCV is 28, so up another point, and his urine is looking less foamy!
I am trying not to freak out about the lump and the surgery tomorrow, but it’s quite scary.
love and hugs to you all —
tamara and ashki
Hi Tamara
I’m so sorry – I didn’t mean to make you worry even more. Don’t forget that protein in the urine is caused by the pred too – Worzel had protein ++ (also glucose) when he was on the high dose, but it gradually dropped when the dose was reduced, so this could be part of the problem. I have to confess I was also worried about his kidneys at that time, but he slowly reverted to normal – a huge relief. We all just need to be aware that things need keeping an eye on with the side effects of these drugs.
Great news on the PCV of 28 – you’ve made my evening much better! I hope the lumpectomy goes well – whatever it turns out to be, Ashki is much better off without it. I will be thinking about you & am sending tons of good vibes from this side of the pond.
Loads of love & cuddles to you & sweet Ashki
