Thanks Sheena. I know that retics vs. absolute retics can be a bit misleading so just wanted to exercise caution until someone else had seen it. Doxy is a bit wicked at causing stomach pain and I remember not being allowed to lie down for half an hour after taking it. Not so easy in dogs! M x
Hi Tamara
I’m really sorry I’ve not had much time today – I hope Mary has had a chance to look at the tests further as well – two or more heads are always better than one! From the raised neutrophils early on(not eosinophils!! Sorry) I would say there has been an infection or severe inflammatory reaction at onset. Monocytes were also raised which indicates inflammation – pretty much as Ashki’s story really. I know the anaemia is still present, but red cells need time & I am over the moon to read Ashki is now regenerative. The raised liver enzymes have come down a bit on the latest test – great! Dr Dodds liver cleansing diet seems to be working well! The latest pathology says inflammatory processes are coming under control – also good. I am wondering if the small red cells mentioned are due to the high iron level in the serum (which has probably been caused by overload of iron from the transfusions). With the exception of magnesium, which I know nothing about & will have to look into, all the other out-of range figures on the latest tests (liver & kidney) are pretty much guaranteed to be drug induced (side effects).
Well, it’s all looking much better than at the start of his diagnosis – brilliant. Don’t worry about the out of range stuff too much – they will settle when you can eventually reduce the doses.
I will try & get some more time tomorrow & be more thorough!
Sheena, Worzel & Ollie too xxxx
Mary, thank you so much. That webpage is wonderful and very helpful. It seems that the increased percentage of retics is a good sign, as is the uptick in numbers!
It really does make a difference having your support, it helps so very much to know that you all really understand.
with love and gratitude,
Tamara and Ashki
Sheena, no worries, I understand completely, and thank you so very much. I am also corresponding at length with Patrice and she has been incredibly helpful, explaining all these things in detail and helping me to put the puzzle pieces together.
I was giving a liquid supplement that has iron in it, but I am going to discontinue and give pet-tinic instead.
It is such a comfort having you all helping me and explaining this all to me and just knowing that I am not alone and that you have been through all this.
with love and gratitude,
Tamara and Ashki
ps Ashki is really hungry! Since this has started he has lost 7 pounds, so I am slowly increasing the amount I feed him; I’m trying to feed him enough that he’ll leave a little in his bowl.
Tamara, you can add some extra meals in there too. Bingo STILL gets (and he has no need for) breakfast, lunch, dinner and a late night supper – that doesn’t include the 2 billion treats he doesn’t need. He just has this amazing inner clock that says it’s time to eat.
Patrice, Sheena and Mary are all brilliant aren’t they.
Love Vally & Bingo.
They are Vally – you all are so very helpful. Ashki is getting 4 meals a day just like Bingo but he was still very hungry so I increased the amount from 1 cup per meal to 1.5 cups per meal. He did leave more this morning, we’ll see how his appetite is the rest of the day.
With love and gratitude,
tamara and Ashki xoxo
