- And introduction to Casy
As always Sheena and Vally are spot on. This dog MUST be on famotadine(pepcid) to protect her stomach and she should be on aspirin if she has had a blood transfusion. I am not sure where you vet is getting this info from but please put that sweet pup on something to protect her stomach! I am so glad Sheena and Vally responded so quickly as I am no where near as good with the medical side of all this craziness BUT i have done my research. I have listened to Sheena Vally and Patrice and I have followed Dr.Dodds protocols and my Vet has also been on board with all of this at my insistence. Please do not hesitate to ask questions of your vet. Tell him/her you want them to do the research on the best ways to handle this situation and offer up a phone call to Dr.Dodds at your expense if necessary. I am still praying for you and sending love and healing to your pup.
Warmly,
Amy & Coal
Al has emailed a list of the meds. This is what Casy is on:
Atopica 10mg 2x a day
Clavamox 62.5mg 2x per day
Zuboxa 68mg 1/2 tab 1 per day
Pred 5mg 1/2 tab 2x a day
Mirtazapine 15mg 1/4 tab every 3rd day
Enrofloxacin and Clavamox are both antibiotics. Do you know why she’s on both of these? Clavamox is a penicillin drug. That’s a NO NO for our dogs. Amy is right about the pepcid, or you could use my favourite, Sucralfate. We need to get her tummy protected from the drugs.
Aspirin – ask why it’s not required. There are some cases when it’s not, Bingo didn’t need it as his marrow was destroying the reds, not whilst in circulation, but in MOST cases it’s essential. If the vet says they’ve checked for clotting, that’s okay then, but please ask again.
She’s not on enough prednisone really either. She should be on 10mg a day at this point. 1mg per pound is the correct dosage.
Sorry Al, please ask the vet again about this.

The clavamox is Amoxicillin trihydrate clavulanate potassium, This was prescribed for the sinus infection she has. I will double check all of this tomorrow. I will also ask about the pepcid and aspirin.
