Hi Wendy, I’m sorry to hear Frank has been diagnosed with this disease but glad to hear he’s holding his PCV. Linda turned me on to costco for pet meds and it is much cheaper than the vet. I also wanted to note that you don’t need a membership to get the meds at costco however if uou do get a membership there is an additional discount. It saves me about 40% on meds-Thanks again Linda!
I hope things continue to improve for Frank, stay strong.

Oh Jen – I did not know Costco would still give a discount without a membership. Great to know. Even if it’s not as much as with membership, it’s something! Thanks for the greats up!!!
I really hope that you can get to a Costco Wendy. As Hen says, huge savings.
I just called all Sadie’s in yo them. They called me today to say all is ready except the Cerenia had to be ordered and to wait until all is in. She was worried about me driving all the way there and having to come back for the Cerenia. They are so nice to me. They always ask about Sadie. 😊
Please let us know how Frankbis doing. Thinking positive thoughts!
Love, Linda and Sadie
Today has been just exhausting. Frank is eating and he seems like he is a little more cheerful. His PCV is steady at 13%. He wants to play ball and wants to get in trouble like his old self. He keeps following me around every time I walk to another room in the house. He just wants to follow me, which is fine, but I just wish he could rest.
His pee has cleared up. His poop, there is still some bright orange and some black stuff there. He isn’t really pooping as much as he use to, which is normal.
I am hoping for a turnaround in his PCV level. I have to take him in to the vet tomorrow and I am just so nervous. I also heard back from Dr. Dodds and she told me that my vet did not call her. This is really frustrating situation. I am hoping that she at least spoke to UC Davis staff.
Tomorrow I am taking Frank with me. I have an awesome job that lets me do this. However, it will be a little difficult because I am a social worker and I need to go to see my kids. However, I do not want to leave him alone at any moment. I am going to ask my supervisor if it is okay with them to let me do phone calls until Frank is better.
And thank you for all your help. Costco is about two hours away from me, so I may need to see if it is worth the drive to go there and back. I’ll do those calculations tomorrow.
have a good night ladies.
With much love,
Wendy and Frankenstein :) <3
Wendy,
your intuition is right, it would be better for Frank to rest as much as possible. I know it is also important for him to be with you and it is great that your employer lets you take him to work! Actually I think that every social worker should be required to have a dog along for therapy reasons! I would see what Frank does if you restrict him in a kennel or X-pen. Does he get up and anxious when you leave the room? If not maybe that could be a solution. 13% is really very low and I am concerned. At the same time glad you are going beck to see the vet tomorrow. You are so good at advocating for Frank and I know you will be polite but firm in asking the vet to collaborate with Dr. Dodds. I hope that the PCV has gone up by tomorrow and Frank is improving. Any luck with eating?
Best wishes,
Brigitte
He is eating much more. In fact, he wants more food. We have these bones out for my other dog and he grabbed one and began to chew on it. I immediately took it away and before i could remove the bone he growled at me. That has never happened. I think this is a sign that the pred is working.
I’ll keep everyone up-to-date once I talk to the vet tomorrow. Hopefully she has good news for me.
Hi Wendy
Frankenstein! No way, he’s too gorgeous. You are right – the pred does give them one huge appetite, which is nice when they haven’t been eating. Worzel was literally starving – couldn’t keep up with feeding him!
Thank goodness you job lets you be with Frank – none of us want to leave them when they are this poorly – we didn’t go out together for about 2 months as I couldn’t leave Worzel alone for a minute. Too paranoid for that.
I feel for you with all this hassle & the vet’s reluctance to use Dr Dodds treatment – you are stuck in the middle & it is always very difficult. Like Brigitte, I am concerned about his PCV – he needs the drugs Dr Dodds has told them to use to get him going properly. I am crossing everything that you get him started on the right treatment immediately. Are you using a local vet AND UC Davis? I’m not sure what’s happening there? I still think if you are getting nowhere with them, you should go elsewhere – they are slowing Frank’s recovery down by refusing to listen. Many people on here changed vets & it was the best thing they ever did, so don’t be afraid to do that. I’m so sorry for you – this would be driving me insane too if it were me. If I can help in any way, tell me.
In the meantime, stay strong – please, please let us know what happens with the medications – he needs them without delay.
Sending love & hugs
