Hi again. Wendy, I know it’s all frustrating.
Listen, someone, somewhere needs to give you a script for cyclosporine (Atopica). It turned Sadie around – her PCV last Monday was 13%! She weighs 34 lbs and her autoimmune suppressants are:
Prednisone: 45mg daily (25/20)
Atopica (75mg daily (50/25)
The Atopica can take a week or so to kick in, but once it does, Frank’s PCV will start to go up. Now, Atopica, unfortunately, is expensive. I do NOT buy it from the vet. I get the vet to call the prescription in to COSTCO. The price is 1/3 the vet price. COSTCO will give anyone; human, canine, feline – a discount on ALL medications. You just sign up. If you don’t have a COSTCO membership, maybe you can find someone that does? But a simple membership is not that much and the savings on the meds being bought there that Frank will be on, will pay for itself. I donated enough to get a membership.
Bottom line, who ever your vet is needs to add Atopica and the sooner, the better. Please, I know your head is spinning, you’re exhausted and frustrated. But once these medications, both the prednisone AND Atopica are in his system, you will see a turn around.
Also, again about Dr. Dodds. She is a wonderful, caring, brilliant person that helps so many. If you consulted with any other (holistic, but uses traditional medications too) vet, the bill could have easily been $700-$1,000.00. Trust me, much to my dismay, it happened to me. Dr. Dodds is a bargain. AND she is one of the most knowledgable vets on the face of the earth. And as all have said, once you have her in Frank’s corner, she will continue to fight and help you.
My original vet that diagnosed Sadie in 2013, called her (your vet can too). She answered, sleepy snd my vet realized he had woken her, it was 5:30am in CA / he didn’t realize where he was calling (I was not there) and the time difference between FL-CA. He immediately Sadie he was so sorry and he would call back later. She said, ‘is this about Sadie? Let’s talk now and get that girl well!’ And they did. She is awesome. You have paid for her services – she’ll be here for you.
And thank you Sheena! You have been wonderful beyond giving to Wendy. Thank for all you continually do for us all.
Thinking positive thought for you Wendy and Frsnk. Let’s get this boy well!!!
Love and hugs, Linda and Sadie
Hello Ladies,
I see now why Dr. Dodds is so important. I think it is a culmination of being tired, hungry, and not all there that made me a little frustrated. I have printed out everything and I will have a talk with my vet early in the morning. I will be requesting the following: Thyrozine–> to stimulate bone marrow, if PCV is low I will request Cyclosporine (Atopica)/azathioprine and keep him on the prednisone.
I was trying to find the link that someone had submitted for Milk Thistle/SAMe and the Pet-tinic. Could you please send me that link? I would like to purchase it right now.
Thank you ladies for all of your help. This whole situation is so frustrating. I am emotionally and physically drained.
Frank by the way has been sleeping all day. His pee is clearing up, but he has an appetite and is drinking water when prompted to do so.
Thank you for all of your help and donations. If I may, I would like to send a real big virtual hug to you, Sheena I appreciate all of the help that I have received from you and for being so fast in responding my emails on Saturday. I really do appreciate it.
Wendy – no problem! It was a pleasure to help.
Just get the medications Dr Dodds says & I will be happy – don’t take no for an answer & stick to your guns – if you have a problem, change vets – don’t hesitate for a second.
Only you can help Frank get through this now you have the right information – go get him sorted out
Love sheena xxxx
Wendy, I’ve just sent you a chart. The times I’ve put in are:
6.50 am – Famotidine
7.50 am – Pprednsione
9.50 am – sucralfate
4 pm – sucralfate
6 pm – prednisone
10 pm – sucralfate
That’s for now. When we’ve got the extra drugs we’ll sort it out. I appreciate you may not be at home at all hours but we’ll fiddle it and make it work.

Vally, I know you are the organizer for the medications, I don’t know how you juggle it! I wish you would have been there when we needed it. The other thing that comes in though is the food. I think it should be given at the same time as the prednisone. It might not be clear to Wendy, that is why I throw it in.
Thanks for doing these charts, it is so important and helps to keep it all organized.
Brigitte
I appreciate that Brigitte. I did remember to include food on the chart itself at the same time as the pred – just forgot to include it above. I appreciate the reminder though. I’d much rather someone(s) double check me.
Just reiterating Wendy, prednisone should be given with food.

Wendy, link to Pet Tinic at Amazon is:
This one is called Iron Plus – can someone else check this. I understand this is exactly the same formula as Pet Tinic, but heaps cheaper.
and this is the Denamarin, which is SAMe and Milk Thistle (for medium dogs)
