What is the most common medication that can treat this that will help him and hopefully not making him worse?
I am taking him tomorrow and I printed out a list of the medications that I found under the resources page that he should not take. But what medications could he take? I was checking his body and I found that the pimple on his stomach when away…but there were pus filled openings under his paw and it looks really swollen. Like I said, tomorrow he is going in first thing! My poor baby and I understand why the vet wants to hold off on the antibiotics…but things just got worse for him.
I am soon frustrated that my baby can’t seem to catch a break!

Hi Wendy
Cephalosporin works well for staph infections, even though it’s on the list of no-no antibiotics. Many people on here have had to use it for a short time – sometimes you have no choice, I’m afraid, as you cannot let this take hold. Keep the course as short as possible. If the chlorhexadine isn’t keeping it under control, you will have to get an antibiotic that will kill that particular bug off. Your vet needs to take a sample & find out exactly what it is – I bet it’s staph as so many of our dogs get this problem.

I had to take him in to the vet. Somehow, his left leg started bleeding and it was just so much. Now, I wait at work to hear back from the vet about his condition. My heart is just breaking for my little boy.
I hope to get more information today about the medication and I will try to get all of his updated information as soon as they have it available.

Vet diagnosed Frank with skin infection and cellutitis. He has been given additional medication Cephelaxin (spelling?) he will be taking those twice a day at 750mg.
Vet also took out more blood and has sent it out for further testing to verify what is going on.
I also got some cream to put on his two injuries. On the upper part of the leg he had three “pimples” pop and that is where the blood came from. I will have to clean that up every three days. It is bandaged up. He also has some openings in the paws and that I will have to keep clean and if he licks at it..I will have to bandage it too. But I bought him a cone so that he doesn’t get near either one his injuries on his left leg.
My poor baby is a fighter.
