No actually the internet said that it will help replenish the “whole” blood. It is IMHA. But as I said before they felt that since there is so much damage to the blood as a whole to help build up other parts can not hurt and if nothing else she will sleep well at night :) I think it is more of a “cover your butt” type of treatment.
Again, very interesting – thanks Amy. Great if it works & even if it doesn’t, it is low risk, why not? Puppys are special & different.
Do you suffer from auto-correct syndrome like I do? I ‘ll blame that for my typos anyway!
Thanks for the info on melatonin Amy! My vet also suggested we add melatonin ( she had Evans, both low platlets & aiha) although he did not know why it helps. She got better so it may have contributed to her progress. It’s nice to know why it is suggested. I hope your puppy gets better soon!

(sorry to interrupt your topic Amy!)
A very hard blood draw today. Sweet Coal cried. :( my poor girl. Her veins have been through hell! No results until Wednesday. They decided to send it out again since it has been a few weeks since the last full blood check. Everything else is good and the vet checked her muscles today and said she didn’t feel any waste and her clumsiness may be due to her massive growth spurt she has grown taller in the past two weeks. I will just keep an eye on it for now. We are staying on the same dose of meds for at least one more week. Next Monday we will discuss another reduction. I’ll let you all know about her blood work as soon as I hear back. Be well!
Amy and Sassy Coal
Oh poor baby. Give her lots of cuddles. I must admit I’m glad I don’t see any of this. Bingo goes out the back, but he comes back quickly, so I suspect they don’t have much trouble.
Staying on the same dose is a good thing. Truly slow and steady does win this race.

Hiya Amy
Oh, that’s not nice for poor Coal – so sorry. I think she’s such a brave girl & deserves an extra treat. And as Vally says, lots of big cuddles too.
It always seems like an eternity when you have to wait for results. Crossing everything for a good report. Good to hear she is holding up well physically too, Amy.
I can’t agree with Vally more – slow pred weaning is so important – “cautious” is my middle name!!!
Love & gentle hugs for your sweet puppy girl
