Neoplasia (singular neoplasm) are tumors that can occur throughout the dog’s body. Neoplasia are formed by cells that have undergone abnormal growth or division to form a tumor & can be benign or malignant. MRI, X-rays, biopsies & other scans are used in addition to blood & urine tests to investigate & in some cases, the tumor will be removed & sent to the laboratory for analysis. Treatment depends on whether the tumor is benign or malignant. Most benign neoplasia can be surgically removed if in an easily accessible place. Many malignant neoplasia can also be removed, but chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy may be needed to kill off any cancer cells remaining in the body.
Please note exception: Neoplasms in leukemia & most carcinoma in situ do not form a tumor.
