Cytopenia means the reduction in the number of one or more types of blood cells. There are many types of cytopenia which are named according to which line of blood cells is affected. Anemia (low red cells), leukopenia (low white blood cells or”leukocytes”) , neutropenia (low neutrophils) and thrombocytopenia (platelets).
Pancytopenia is the deficiency of all three blood cell types (see aplastic anemia).
