Chlorambucil (Leukeran) for dogs is a veterinary drug used in the chemotherapy treatment of cancers and immune-mediated conditions such as AIHA. It works by interfering with DNA replication in rapidly dividing cells such as lymphocytes that are responsible for the autoimmune attack on red blood cells in AIHA. A serious side effect is the risk of bone marrow suppression that reduces the number of red and white blood cells. There can be a contraindication using it with Azathioprine and Cyclophosphamide. There are other negative side effects so this drug should be used as a last choice in treatment after other drugs have been tried.
