Immunosuppression is the inhibition or reduction of the efficiency of the reaction of the immune system to stimuli. In AIHA, this is done by giving immunosuppressant drugs to deliberately stop the body from attacking it’s own cells by mistake. These drugs are used to suppress the action of T-Lymphocytes.
Many immunosuppressant drugs are available for the treatment of AIHA, including prednisone (“the cornerstone of treatment”), azathioprine, cyclosporine, cyclophosphamide, amongst others.
