- New Rescue – Nauset
Got a rescue Chocolate Lab on the 11th. She is 18 – 24 months old and very low key. She has some issues and one of them is anemia. Her HCT was 30.
She has been through a lot lately so I hope it is not the dreaded disease – which could be a slight possibility. I am not sure I can do this again.
I still miss my Dunes and this little one is already in my heart. She will NEVER by my Dunes but I have enough love for her. I am trying NOT to panic yet.

oh joe. that is wonderful… yes, they do have a way to enter our heart rather fast. you will love your new baby for the wonderful girl that she is . and, dunes wants you to be happy what will you name your little girl? if she has been through a lot of late you too will be able to help each other. I am so happy for you and she has found the best dad any little girl could have. my very, very best. lynn & hayley
Joe, that’s wonderful news. Of course you’re nervous about your new little girl. I think we are all a bit scarred by this disease but it just makes us much more careful than most dog owners I’m sure. I’ll bet anything, with your loving care, she’ll be just fine.
Is Nauset her name? Can’t wait to see a photo.
You’ve got a huge heart Joe. Of course she won’t take Dune’s place in your heart – she’ll make her own place.
So very pleased.

Joe,
no dog can replace the one we have lost. But I am convinced your heart is big enough to love this “new” dog without comparing her to Dunes. That would just not be fair, she is her own individual and I am convinced every dog comes to us for a reason. I got my puppy Enzo 2 months after I lost Kahlu. I was still devastated, but Enzo healed my broken heart! He was so funny and entertaining, I could not help to laugh and feel good about him, myself and the world. Grieving takes time, but with this girl I think you are on the way of feeling better.
I hope the low HCT is something temporary and you will soon get to the bottom of it. How lucky this girl is to have you by her side. You have all the education and compassion to make her feel better soon. A low key Chocolate Lab??? I have not met one of those yet!:) maybe it has something to do with her low HCT? Please keep ups posted on how she is doing and what you and your vet are doing to make her get better.
Best wishes and good luck,
Brigitte &the poodle boys
Nauset is a very fortunate little girl. I’m sure you have enough love in your heart for many more homeless pups who need someone to care about them. You never replace the lost ones, I think you honor their memory by loving another. My best to you and your new baby.
Nauset is a very sick girl and the Vet says if I can’t do thousands then she needs to return to the shelter. I have talked with the shelter and am not returning her. I’ve decided what to do and will contact Dr. Dodds just to have a quick opinion.
I cannot dump her even if I can’t spend thousands. However, I can at least do what the shelter does. I will tell you a bit more later even though this is not AIHA.
