Hi, I have a Dutch shepherd/collie mix. Her name is Sophie and she is 10. She was diagnosed with IMHA about a year ago. She was on prednisone for a short amount of time, along with Mycophenolate, which she just stopped taking about 2 weeks ago. All her numbers were good and I was so thrilled to have her off the meds. But she is not acting normal now. She’s eating fine, of course (she’s 97 lbs!), but she doesn’t want to go for walks, she seems to be scratching a lot, and is not sleeping where she normally does. She’s also panting more than normal. I’m wondering if this is common once meds have been stopped. She’s got an appt for the vet in a week, but I’m wondering if maybe I should take her sooner. I just want my baby girl to be living her best life!
Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Jennifer, I’m sorry you’re worrying about Sophie.
If it were me, I would see the vet sooner. This disease has left me so so paranoid, I know I’d go mad with worry.
I suspect it’s a reaction to having been on the Mycophenolate and now stopping it and her body needs to get used to not having it.
I think for your own sanity, go and see the vet.
My best, Vally
