HCT Hematocrit is similar to PCV and is the volume of red blood cells expressed as a calculated percentage in a sample of blood counted by an automated blood analyser. If HCT is below 37-38%, this is considered anemia.
PCV packed cell volume is slightly different – PCV is directly measured from a centrifuged sample. Please see PCV Packed Cell Volume for further information.
HCT is prone to error if there are inaccuracies in the automatic MCV & RBC count as they are used in the calculation.
