Chemical screen or chemistry panel of the blood is used to look at liver, pancreas & kidney function, electrolyte levels, proteins & hormones, unlike a CBC (complete blood count) which looks specifically at blood cells. Chemical screening can include Alanine Transaminase , Alkaline Phosphatase, Aspartate Transaminase, Total Bilirubin , Blood Urea Nitrogen, Creatinine, Creatinine Kinase, Total Protein, Lipoprotein, Albumin, Lipase, Amylase, Globulin, Sodium, Potassium, Glucose, Anion Gap, Chloride, Magnesium, Phosphorous, Bicarbonate, Trigycerides, Cholesterol, various hormones (thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, estrogen, testosterone).
Organ specific examples:
Liver – Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP), Alanine Transaminase (ALT), Total Bilirubin & Cholesterol.
Kidney – Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN), Creatinine, Bicarbonate.
Pancreas – Blood Glucose, Amylase & Lipase
